You must make the choice,
To take the chance,
To dare to change
— Zig Ziglar

Oy and welcome to the Sea Rover website.
My name is Dickie and I indulged myself in a life changing adventure.

In the beginning of 2020, the first months of Covid-19, I decided to take a leap of faith and move from my secure apartment in The Netherlands to my new tiny home on the water; a sail yacht I named ‘Sea Rover | Rotterdam’.

I took on the challenges (and benefits) of a minimalistic, nomadic and adventurous lifestyle. While learning how to reduce my ecological impact and develop a self-sufficient sailboat.

After one year of experimenting with the new boatlife I enjoyed it so much that I sort of accidentally got myself into buying a more spacious and comfortable sail yacht in Greece. The initial (business) idea was to enjoy the boat in Greece for one summer and then plan to sail her back to Amsterdam and organise trip for friends, relatives and family over there.

However, the first Greek summer of ‘21 got hold of me and I decided to partially work for my Dutch company all the way from Greece and then share my boat in the summer of ‘22 with relatives (of relatives).

As I didn’t have the money to buy such a boat, sail her back ánd maintain her - plus refitting sustainably later on - I had to take an entrepreneurial approach. So whilst sharing my boat with others (call it commercially chartering 😅), I also attempted to get together a varied group of people with little to a little bit more experience as my crew. Those people were there to share in the adventures, pay a small compensation for their cabins and share in the variable expenses.

Ultimately I managed to get together a crew for every single week and sail back the Sea Rover Amsterdam from Lefkada, Greece to The Netherlands. Passing through the south of Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Mallorca, South Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal, North Spain, Biscay and France - and I shouldn’t forget the storm in Belgium - finishing in bringing her and our final crew back to Holland.

In the meantime you can enjoy my many mistakes, audacious adventures and keep track of my learnings and
developments on this website (😉⛵️#lotsoflearning).
